YOUNG AUDIENCE JURY 2009 - 2010

The counting of the votes for the FMISM Young Audience Jury has now been completed. More than 3600 French high school students (Île de France, Nord-Pas de Calais, Bretagne, Provence-Alpes-Côte-d’Azur, Île de la Réunion) and from Senegal took part in the vote. Verdict: "Poèmes au clair de lune (Poems by moonlight)", produced by Elodie Turpin (Canada) wins the Young Audience Jury 2009-2010 prize.

The winning 9 minute short film combines poetry with natural science. Elodie Turpin, the young director and biologist invites us to discover the underwater world by night. Not very far away, not too deep, just at the mouth of the port of Taliarte in the Canaries, the underwater nightlife, full of surprises, seems to have come from a dream. "Poems by moonlight " also received the prize for Free Expression at the 2009 FMISM.

This year’s Young Jury is the 16th edition organised by the FMISM, with the support of Nausicaa de Boulogne-sur-Mer, Ifremer, the Aquarium de la Porte Dorée in Paris and the Institut Océanographique - Fondation Albert 1er, Prince de Monaco in Paris.

Originally, this prize was determined by the votes of a jury of children who participated at the showing of the films during the FMISM. In 2004, the Young Jury took on another dimension and exceeded the limits of the capacity of the high schools to organise showings of the films. This free competition now runs as follows: school teachers wishing to participate request a DVD of the films entered in the Festival, together with the required notes. Following the guidance notes, the students select the film to be awarded the Prize of the Young Audience Jury. Since 2004 this operation has met with great success in the schools of Alpes-Maritimes, the Var, the Paris region and in the “departments” of the North.

The Young Audience Jury meets one of the principal objectives of the Festival: to acquaint the public with the underwater environment. With the Young Audience Jury, the Festival offers students the opportunity to combine an artistic approach with an appreciation of the underwater world.

The 2009-2010 edition collected votes from 3679 students from almost 120 colleges (Colleges participating: Provence – Alpes – Côte d’Azur (42) ; Nord- Pas de Calais (35) ; Bretagne (16) ; Île de France (9) ; Sénégal (10) ; Île de la Réunion (2)]
___________________________________________________________________
To participate as a producer/director: all that is needed is to enter a film in competition in the Festival in category A or B. There is no special young jury category. The selection of the films that will be offered to the students is made by the preselection jury from all the films entered in competition.
To allow your college or class to participate in the Young Audience Jury, contact the FMISM.

INTERNATIONAL POSTER COMPETITION

One of the aims of the Festival is to increase public awareness of the underwater environment. From the outset, the Festival offered young people (in school or not) activities designed to increase their awareness, often through an artistic approach, of the underwater world. The International Poster Competition is an example of such activity.

Every year the Festival poster is selected from entries by young children received for the International Competition. The competition is open to children between 3 and 19 years old, in school or otherwise. This year’s winner poster is collective work made by young students from Pantelleria (Italy). We congratulate them for their graphic work. These young artists have given the colors of the PACA region (Red and Gold) to their fish and they have placed it on a blue and white background (which are the colors of the city of Marseille).
